Words Broadsheet. Nos. 1-30 (all published)

[Bramley, Surrey] / London: Words Press, [ca 1973-76]. First, Limited Edition. Thirty individual issues, each consisting of a single sheet of colored card-stock folded twice to make eight panels. Early issues printed recto only; later issues printed both sides. Nos. 1-10 limited to 100 hand-numbered copies; nos. 11-20 limited to 150 copies; nos. 21-30 limited to 200 copies. Most issues (nos. 1-20) in this grouping are numbered "26," with the small, letterpress ownership label of collector Stanley Scott, of Chard, Somerset; later issues numbered "52," save one, numbered "176." Uniformly fine condition, free of soil or evidence of use (aside from the noted ownership labels).

NOTE: Broadsheets 21-30 were issued both signed (50 copies) and unsigned (150 copies); ours are all from the unsigned issue.

Rare complete run of this finely-printed poetry broadside/broadsheet series. Though most issues were published without date or editorial attribution, the Words Press archive at Princeton University dates the series from 1973-76 and assigns primary editorial responsibility to poet Julian Nangle; Jean Louis Chevalier contributed to the Denton Welch retrospective issues. The project attracted work from many first-rate British poets: Ted Hughes, Thom Gunn, Alan Sillitoe, Martin Booth, Ruth Fainlight, and numerous others. Broadsheets Eleven through Sixteen are dedicated entirely to the work of British painter, poet and novelist Denton Welch (1915-1948). Covers illustrated by various artists including Augustus John, Guy Cooper, Vera Leslie, etc.
