[Item #90258] The Purcell Papers. Joseph Sheridan LE FANU.

The Purcell Papers

London: Richard Bentley & Son, 1880. First U.K. Edition. Three Volumes. Octavo. 19cm. Publisher's olive green cloth titled in gilt to spines. 236pp.; 273pp.; 289pp. Strong, handsome and uniform, bumped to spine ends, with some light scuffing and rubbing to extremities (most visible on vol II), but free of anything other than fairly light wear; internally clean, patterned pale green endpapers, light foxing to the prelims of all three vols, with vol III being a little shaken, there's a small tear to the upper front hinge, and the first gathering is holding but loose, otherwise clean and smart. A very good set of a popular 19th century triple decker that when seen at all, is generally seen looking rather less robust, copies in the original cloth are even thinner on the ground.

The last of Le Fanu's published triple deckers, this one appearing posthumously, containing among other delights "A Strange Event in the Life of Schalken The Painter", one of Le Fanu's best grim and ghoulish little tales.

Price: $4,000.00
