Strong, straight and handsome with some mild wear to spine ends and corners and a little flaking to the gilt of the spine label; internally clean with bookplate to front pastedown of William Van Winkle, and a florid authorial inscription to front flyleaf with some faint and rather characteristic tape residue, illustrated throughout with black and white photographs Lawrence B. Smith. A very good, clean and handsome copy.
Inscription reads; "To Wm. Mitchell Van Winkle, An souvenir of a very delightful evening, Eugene V. Connett May 27 1936"
Van Winkle was one of the leading collectors and bibliographers of sporting books for the period, and was the author of the invaluable "Henry William Herbert (Frank Forester); A Bibliography." [1936, Maine]. A desirable provenance.
