Collects Jones' work written up to 1966, excluding the poems in his two earlier commercially-published collections, Preface to a Twenty Volume Suicide Note and The Dead Lecturer. In the foreword Baraka characterizes his work after this period as "self-consciously spiritual, and stronger. I leave this 'poetry' at 1966 because I did not want to give the devils all of it." A key work of the Black Arts Movement; the cloth issue must have been very small, as it has been hard to find for as long as we've been selling books.
