Santiago, Imprenta Nacional, 1870-1875. First Thus. Octavo. 20cm. Quarter dark green pebble grained cloth over marbled boards, titled in gilt to spine. 31pp.; 5pp.; 15pp.; 7pp.; 7pp.; 16pp.; 68pp. respectively. Light wear to corners and a little rubbing to the boards, straight and handsome; internally clean and fresh, with some light foxing and soiling in places and some contemporary manuscript additions to the “Club des Obreros” pamphlet detailing duties of the Treasurer. A very good, neat and clean little sammelband.

The mid to late 19th century in Chile was a fertile and active period in the adoption of more liberal ideals, a spate of educational and social reform, and the formation of numerous mutual aid organisations among labor and social ‘clubs’ and societies. Increased industrialization and a hunger for large scale modernization created a need for greater organization and mobilization among labor and social communities, leading to an upsurge in unionisation of trades and crafts that previously would have worked more among ‘guild’ lines, and the building of social co-operative organizations.

Institutional holdings are sparse for specific issues and dates, but there are some holdings for surrounding years available.
