Lettice's rather ecstatic poem was published under the auspices of "Mr. Seaton's Will", an endowment given to the University of Cambridge in 1738; firstly endowing the University with an estate, and secondly maintaining that a certain amount of the income due from the estate be used to finance a Cantab. MA (which John Lettice was) to publish his poetry. Printed by Joseph Bentham, the official printer of Cambridge University before they possessed their own autonomous press.
