Fourth book by the influential Black Arts poet, chiefly centered around the effects of racism on the Black experience. While Emanuel credits the existence of this book to young people, in his preface he also notes: "Three months after my family's return to America the pre-dawn killing by Chicago police of the sleeping Black Panthers Mark Clark and Fred Hampton fired in me the resentment that was transformed, on January 17, 1970, into the poem 'Panther Man.'"
