Later institutional leatherette titled in gilt over marbled boards. 54pp. Strong, tight and bright, some light rubbing and scuffing to the edges and extremities; internally clean and fresh, Emory University bookplate to front pastedown and pencil catalog number to verso title page, half title present, edges untrimmed with wise margins. A very good, clean copy of a neat and elusive little book.

A relatively early work in the annals of garden design and layout, with the horticultural art as directed towards individual gardens being in its first century of existence in the Western literary realm. Mason's "Essay" originally published anonymously and reprinted in a very successful revised edition 3 decades later.
