Theodore Parker's Experience as a Minister, with Some Account of his Early Life, and Education for the Ministry. Contained in a Letter From Him to the Members of the Twenty-Eighth Congregational Society of Boston
Boston: Rufus Leighton, Jr, 1859. First Edition. First printing. Octavo. Publisher's brown blind-stamped cloth; gilt spine title; 182pp + 3pp ads. A bright, unworn copy, remarkably free of wear; Near Fine.
Upon leaving his pastorate due to failing health 1859, Parker was presented with an adulatory letter of thanks by his distraught congregation, many of whom had abandoned main-line Congregationalism in order to join his theologically radical, socially progressive religious movement. In return, shortly before his death, Parker penned this lengthy autobiographical epistle, which is here published posthumously together with the original correspondence. A remarkably nice copy of Parker's notable, though not especially uncommon, last book.
