Modest shelf-wear and -soil, with slight rubbing to cloth at board edges; Very Good. Dustwrapper has shelf-wear and -soil, with ca. 5cm loss at lower spine panel and several smaller chips and closed tears; still Good or better, and quite uncommon thus.

Foundational work by an important scholar of Asian art, Director of the Berliner Völkerkundemuseum until his exile in 1933; then Founder and Director of the Museum of Eastern Art at Oxford, which would evolve into the Department of Eastern Art at the Ashmolean. An uncommon book, especially in dustwrapper.
