Rather uncommon proletarian novel of the Twenties, set among striking workers at a New York clothing factory. The main character, a single mother who works in a sweatshop on New York’s Lower East Side, becomes a talented union organizer, leading a series of successful strikes. She eventually emigrates to the Soviet Union to join her former co-worker and lover, who has become the superintendent of a locomotive repair shop.
