Weaver was head of customer research for General Motors, and is generally credited with having invented the template for customer based market research questionnaires. Ellis was the president of the Kudner advertising agency who was almost singlehandedly responsible for restoring the fortunes of General Motors, and the auto industry as a wider whole, as well as a number of other key US corporations, as well as having had a lasting effect upon American lifestyle culture and advertising methodology.
