A scarce, privately-published account of the Siege, from the diary of a Private in the 17th Illinois Infantry. Wells (born 1842) was killed in action at Vicksburg on July 9th, 1864. The brief Foreword gives an account of his life and service; it is signed "S.E.K." [Sarah Ewell Krolik]. Not in Nevins. DORNBUSCH I, p.25.
