Limited Edition Installation Catalogues: "The Fly With The Wings"; "Mental Institution, or Institute of Creative Research"; "The Red Wagon"; "We Are Leaving Here Forever."

New York: Harry Abrams, 1991. First, Limited Edition. Quarto. 28cm. Four volumes, housed in the original publisher's cardboard clamshell box with paper title labels. Each volume limited to 500 copies. Velo-Bound with grey card covers and paper title labels. The cardboard clamshell box is complete, strong and solid, lightly soiled and dented in places, with some creasing to the edges of the paper title labels, which are prone to disappearing entirely due to the poor adhesive used. Very good, clean copies with some light soiling to the outer covers in places, numbered by hand to the title pages, with Volume I: "The Fly With The Wings" SIGNED by Kabakov below the limitation.

Kabakov, originally born in Dnipro, Ukraine, whilst it was part of the USSR, was originally forbidden to travel outside the Soviet Union until 1987. Celebrated, along with his wife and art partner Emilia, as a pioneer of installation art, they have collectively produced a prolific output of complex, visionary, and utopian installations and artworks to considerable critical praise.

"Kabakov has created catalogues that reproduce the texts he has devised for the exhibitions and virtually recreate the original spectator's view. These are four of the catalogues, from 1991 exhibitions in Pittsburgh, Hanover, Dusseldorf and Malmo. The texts are all in Russian and English and most are in French and German as well. Gatefolds of the plans enable readers to see how entire rooms appeared and numerous photographs offer an immediate experience of the finished installations." [Abrams, from the clamshell case blurb].
