Two Lamaistic Pantheons (2 vols)

Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1937. First Edition. Two octavo volumes. Blue cloth hardcovers; dustjackets; xxiv,169,(1) + 314 (plates). Mild bump to upper board corner of v.I, else a fine set, free of markings or notable wear. In the original dustwrappers, lightly dusted, toned on spine panels, still attractive and Very Good. An unusually well-preserved set. Issued as vols. 3 & 4 in the series "Harvard-Yenching Institute Monographs."

Encyclopedic reference to the identification figural representations of Tibetan Buddhist deities, based on Clark's translation of "a unique manuscript, about two hundred years old, in which each figure bears the name of the divinity in Chinese, Mongolian, and Manchu" (from jacket copy). The second volume is a photographic atlas of more than 700 bronzes found in a Lama temple in the Forbidden City. Scarce in the first edition; this an exceedingly nice set in the original dustwrappers.
