[Item #86639] Elsa's Housebook: a Woman's Photojournal. Elsa DORFMAN.

Elsa's Housebook: a Woman's Photojournal

Boston: David R. Godine, 1974. First Edition. First printing. Octavo. Pictorial card wrappers (there was no regular hardcover edition); 78pp. Slightly rubbed at wrapper edges; spine sunned, faint stain to fore edge of text block - not pristine, but still a Very Good copy.

Dorfman's first book, which established her as both an important portrait photographer and an icon of the counterculture. Includes photographs of guests to Dorfman's home in Cambridge, Massachusetts, beginning in the mid-Sixties – these included a remarkable array of well-known literary figures, including Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, Charles Olson, Anne Waldman, and many others. The book isn't as uncommon as it was once thought to be, but it's still a great record of the period spanning the end of the Beat era and the waning years of the Hippie counterculture.
