Japanese cloth binding in green, red, blue and gilt. 286pp. Some light siling, very little wear, strong and tight; internally clean, original publisher's yellow printed wraps retained; internally clean and bright, with colored portrait of Hokusai as an old man as Frontispiece, a little toned in places due to cheap paper stock, and with some dust to the top edge.

A French language biography and examination of the life, and art, of Hokousai, from the pen of Edmond De Goncourt, larger than life French critic, publisher, writer, and with his brother Jules, author of decadent, picaresque adventures like "Germinie Lacerteux" in 1865, based upon the criminal and sexual peccadilloes of their mutual housekeeper, Rose.
