The Boyhood Photos of J.H. Lartigue; The Family Album of a Gilded Age

Switzerland: Ami Guichard, 1966. First Edition. Oblong Quarto. 23.5cm. Publisher's heavy burgundy cloth boards titled and decorated in gilt to spine and front board, with an oval photographic image of Lartigue laid on to the front board. 126pp; [2]. Light bumping to spine ends and some minor scuffing to extremities, some scratches and shelfwear to the rear board, clean and strong; internally clean, illustrated throughout with the English text, and 62 images printed onto heavy grey card in the manner of a 19th century photo album. A very good, smart copy indeed with very light wear.

A beautifully produced collected of images and reminiscenses depicting the boyhood creativity of the man who would become one of France's most celebrated photographers. Following on from his embryonic experiments with portrait and action photography in fin de siecle France, through to his developing interest in scientific and aeronautical subjects. An account of the photographer, certainly, but also very much an account of the age which formed him as an artist.

Price: $300.00
