Custer, WA: Phoenix Publishing, 1988. First American Edition. Octavo. 23.5cm. Publisher's brown rexine, titled in gilt to spine. Dustjacket. [x]; [1]; 349pp. Lightly bumped to spine ends, with some scuffing at the corners and lower edge, strong and solid; internally clean, with a section of black and white photographs to the center of the volume; in a clean, bright pictorial dustjacket with some creasing and closed tears to the head of the spine and a little creasing to the upper edge. A very good, strong copy, with some cosmetic wear.

Janet and Stewart Farrar were amongst the most visible faces of late 1970's-80's new witchcraft, popularizing and to a certain degree, demystifying the base concepts of alternative systems like Gardnerian Wicca, Alexandrian variants, and less established or more eccentric esoteric thought. Possibly thought of at the time as 'diluting' the necessary mystery of witchcraft communities, they were undeniably partly responsible for a significant increase in interest and available material relating to alternative belief systems.
