[Item #85659] The Butcher's Tales. RIKKI, Erica Pseud: Ducornet, aka Erica DeGre.

The Butcher's Tales

Ontario: Aya Press, 1980. First, Limited Edition. Quarto. 31cm. Publisher's original buff decorated card wraps. 99pp.; [1]. Light wear and creasing to corners and spine ends, minor chipping and a small closed tear to the foor of the spine, a little soiling of the pale wraps in places; internally clean, signed on the limitation page (#185 of 231 copies), and again inscribed on the title page by the author. A very good, clean copy of a book that was not designed to age beautifully, this copy both signed and inscribed.

The author's first short story collection. The characteristic themes that Ducornet consistently returns to; abuse of authority, love, sex, subversion, nature, and pervasive elements of mysticism and the occult, are in evidence here prior to their subsequent development in later works. Aside from being an artist and writer described as being "linguistically explosive and socially relevant" [an enthusiastic review in The Tuscaloosa News, 2004], she is apparently the inspiration behind the Steely Dan classic "Rikki Don't Lose That Number.", written about her when she attended Bard College with Don Fagan, the lead singer and songwriter of the band.
