Green Pastures: A Fable. Suggested by Roark Bradford's Southern Sketches, "Ol' Man Adam an' His Chillun" [Inscribed Copy]
London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1930. First Edition. First impression. Inscribed on front endpaper: "To Edward J. Ortion, who was complimentary and kind in asking for my autograph," signed, datemarked Paris, 1930. Tight, square copy; endpapers darkened; Connelly's portrait clipped from dustwrapper and laid down to rear endpaper; text clean and unmarked. Very Good overall, lacking the dustwrapper.
Connelly's Pulitzer-Prize winning drama, which was the first play to premier on Broadway with an all-Black cast. Nicely inscribed; the likely recipient is Edward J. Ortion (d.1972) an American dental surgeon in France during WW1 and (according to his New York Times obituary) "long active in Franco-American societies."
Price: $150.00
