How To Know God; The Yoga Aphorisms of Patanjali

London: George Allen and Unwin, 1953. First U.K. Edition. Octavo. 19cm. Publisher's grey-green cloth titled in black to spine. Dustjacket. 143pp. Very light wear and slight discoloration of the cloth around extremities, some light soiling, strong and tight; internally clean, red topstain, pale offsetting to endpapers; in a clean, strong pricelipped dustjacket (although the original 9 shilling price is present on the rear flap) with some minor toning to the spine panel. A very good copy indeed.

Isherwood, along with his friends and colleagues Gerald Heard and Aldous Huxley, were all pretty much lifelong devotees of the Yogi "Vedanta Society" formed in Los Angeles by Swami Prabhavananda in 1930, and which by the 1940's had accumulated a number of high profile and exploratory adepts. Isherwood lectured at the Vedanta temples, and frequently worked with the Swami in the translation of key Vedantic texts. This UK edition, published in the same year as the US edition, is considerably scarcer, and very seldom seen in this condition.
