A significant association copy, inscribed by Nixon to his long-time friend and political adviser, the conservative journalist Ralph de Toledano (1916-2007). Toledano was a notable figure in Nixon's 1950 California Senate campaign, regularly appearing at rallies and speaking on the candidate's behalf. Later, as Vice President, Nixon penned the introduction to Toledano's 1960 book Lament for a Generation, and Toledano later occupied a key (but unofficial) advisory role in the Nixon White House. Signed copies of The Real War are by no means a rarity (and all are signed on pasted-in bookplates), but copies with real association value are far less common.
