Publisher's original deep brown embossed cloth titled in gilt to spine. 215pp. + 12pp ads to rear dated October 1858. Light rubbing and bumping to corners, bumping to the tail of the spine with some shallow loss to the cloth at the head, hairline cosmetic crack to the front spine hinge, binding is clean and strong; internally clean, brown coated endpapers with publisher's advertising leaf for the Waverley novels tipped in before the front flyleaf, fingernail sized corner missing to flyleaf. A very good, clean copy, shows very well.

A very handsome copy of Longfellow's important long form poem of early colonial life, dealing with a dramatic love triangle in the early days of the Plymouth Colony.
