Powerful collaborative work between former New Orleans newspaperman Alfred Maund and artist Ben Shahn. The volume presents twelve cases ranging over two decades, dealing with the question of segregation in hospitals and the difficult, often tragic, situations which arise when hospitals do not accept all sick people, choosing to put limitations on their service based on race. Wrappers and each account accompanied by illustrations by Shahn. Shortly after publication, the volume landed on the desk of Eleanor Roosevelt, becoming the subject of one of her "My Day" columns (October 17, 1952).
