"Friend and Lover"; The Life of Louise Bryant
New York: Horizon Press, 1982. First American Edition. Octavo. 24cm. Publisher's oatmeal cloth spine over orange paper covered boards, titled in gilt to spine. Dustjacket. 390pp. Very light wear to the spine panel; internally clean and fresh, fore-edge untrimmed; in a clean bright example of the dustjacket with some very light marginal wear and slight sunning to the spine panel. A very good copy indeed.
A detailed and evocative biography of Louise Bryant, unstoppable firebrand journlist, feminist, and political activist historically noted for her sympathetic coverage of the Russian Revolution of November 17. Bryant was one of the few journalists emphasising the role of Russian women in the Revolution, and the galvanizing influence of leaders like Maria Spiridonova, and Yekaterina Breshkovskaya; allegedly the first woman in Russia to be sentenced to penal servitude ("Katorga") for political crimes.
