Handbill advertising a civil rights rally in Youngstown, Ohio in 1956, during the height of the McCarthy-era Red Scare. The featured speaker was James Kutcher, a disabled WW2 veteran who had been fired from his job at the U.S. Veterans Administration because of his past affiliation with the Socialist Workers Party. Other speakers included Al Shipka, President of the Mahoning Co. CIO Council; E.B. Smith of the ACLU; and African-American civil rights activist Nate Lee.
