Cities of The Plain
London: Grey Walls Press, 1943. First Edition. Octavo. 21.5cm. Publisher's grey card wraps titled and decorated in black and red to the front wrap. 40pp. Clean, bright and strong. A very good copy indeed, with a small "Made in Great Britain" ink stamp to the rear wrap, and some toning and wear to the spine. Internally clean. A rather heated bit of drama set in a mining community hovering on the brink of a manipulated bankruptcy, from an author who wrote on every subject and genre imaginable, including lyrics for Pete Seeger, but was fated to be remembered for the wildly popular and tongue in cheek (amongst other places) "Joy of Sex", which he perhaps reasonably felt overshadowed his other work.
