Cunningham's first book, and one of the 20th century's criminally under-appreciated anti-war novels. "The Green Corn Rebellion – the incident is so named in the War Department Archives – describes the armed uprising, in August, 1917, of a number of Oklahoma farmers who intended not only to seize power in the state, but to march on Washington, force an end to the war, and establish a cooperative commonwealth" (Rideout, p.195).
