Washington DC: Privately Published, 1900. First Edition. Octavo. 22.5cm. Rebound in recent brown cloth with title sections of the original cloth laid on to spine and front board. 784pp. Strong and solid, unsurprisingly considering the solidity of the rebinding work, with some very light wear. A very good copy. Internally clean with some uniform marginal toning to page block and edges. Two leaves [407-410] towards the centre of the work have been remargined, not interfering with text, probably due to being detached before the binding work was done. Illustrated throughout, portrait frontis. Covering the major part of Armes's career during the Civil War, and on the Western Frontier, where the author was a colleague of George Armstrong Custer.
