Suggestion, Its Law and Application, or The Principle and Practice of Psycho-Therapeutics
Los Angeles: By The Author, 1919. Third Edition Stated. 8vo. 19cm x 13.5cm. Publisher's blue ribbed cloth titled in gilt to spine and front board, minor scuffing and edgewear, some dulling to the spine, and a couple of marginal dents to the cloth, a very good copy. 472pp. Internally clean with some light spotting to the prelims and a general dustyness to the page edges. The fields of hypnosis, suggestion, mesmerism, and animal magnetism are wide, open fields, with few fences, and little in the way of natural obstacles for people who decided throughout the 19th century to attempt to apply "magnetic" principles to everything from social engineering to spiritual vision questing. Distinguishing the sincere explorers from the carpet baggers is a matter of perseverance, but generally anyone who self publishes works on how you can cure your diseases with just the correct mental attitude and a 20 part correspondence course probably also has a bridge you can buy.
