Lonnie McLucas: A Truly Revolutionary Servant of the People
New York: Committee to Defend the Panther 21, [1970]. First Edition. Slim octavo (21.5cm); pictorial mimeographed wraps; [iii],6,[3]pp. Light wear and handling, else very Near Fine.
McLucas (1945-2016), one of the New Haven 9, was convicted of conspiracy in the torture-murder of Alex Rackley, who at the time of his death in 1969, was suspected by several members of the Black Panther Party of being an FBI informant. The pamphlet supplies generous biographic details on McLucas, and sheds light on his treatment while imprisoned and awaiting trial. Rear wrapper prints a rallying cry: "If they convict Lonnie, they can convict the New Haven 9, the New York Panther 21, Bobby Seale...STOP THE NEW HAVEN RAILROAD! Rally to free Lonnie at the start of his trial; Tuesday, July 14, Noon, New Haven." OCLC notes 3 holdings (Harvard, Yale, Temple).
