One of Schultz's Native-American themed stories for young readers, all of which have become hard to find in their first printings. James Willard Schultz (1859-1947), also known by his Blackfeet Indian name Apikuni, was a legendary figure in his native Montana, where he spent many years as a trapper, trader, and guide. Beginning later in life Schultz began his prolific literary career, publishing more than 40 full-length works and hundreds of articles, most based on his long acquaintance with the Blackfeet and Flathead tribes and life in the Rocky Mountain West.
