A reissue bound up from sheets of the First American Edition, retaining the original title page and issued in a new binding, with the Burt imprint stamped at base of spine. Octavo (20.25cm); maroon cloth, with titles stamped in ivory on spine and front cover; [x],309,[1]pp, with frontispiece and 15 plates of illustrations. Early owner's ink name to front endpaper, modest external wear, gentle sunning to spine, with some scuffing to upper edge of textblock, flaking to titling on front cover, with the gutter cracked (though still holding) at title page; Very Good. "Professor George Challenger leads a party of explorers who discover a remnant of the prehistoric world atop a plateau, Raraima, Venezuela" (Barron, Anatomy of Wonder 1-31). Not to be confused with the Burt Photoplay edition produced in 1925. See GREEN & GIBSON A37e.
