Loving (1908-1973) became something of a New Orleans fixture beginning in the 1930s, when he first began turning out his exceptionally nuanced etchings of French Quarter architecture. The prints were sold through French Quarter galleries and on the street by Loving himself, and though the work probably fits under the broad umbrella of "tourist art," there is no question that Loving had exceptional technique and an unusual gift for capturing architectural detail. This is an attractive and characteristic example of his work.
