Broken but substantially complete run of the full five years of this small-circulation anarchist periodical, organ of the New York "Why? Group," which included both influential pre-War Vanguard Group anarchists such as Sam Dolgoff and Franz Fleigler as well as a number of young writer-intellectuals who would achieve a degree of artistic prominence in the Fifties and Sixties, most notably Paul Goodman and Jackson Mac Low, both of whom contribute signed articles within this run of issues. Other contributors represented here, under a variety of pseudonyms and initials, include Audrey Goodfriend, Melvin Greig, David Koven, Raffaele Schiavina, Ammon Hennacy, and others.
