Blue cloth stamped in gilt and white, top edge gilt; x,387,[1]pp; frontispiece portrait and numerous black and white illustrations. Former owner's stamp to front pastedown. Sound, mildly rubbed, both hinges cracked, signs of biopredation to edges of textblock, not affecting text, dampstain to lower outer corner affecting about two-thirds of textblock: Good.

The author was married to Lt. Col. (U.S. Infantry) Fayette Washington Roe (1850-1916). The text covers the period of Roe's service in the American West, including Colorado and Utah Territories.
