Legends of the Ohio Valley; or Thrilling Incients of Indian Warfare. Truth Stranger Than Fiction [Fifth Edition]

Wheeling, WV: West Virginia Printing Co., 1888. Fifth edition. 16mo. Original printed paper wrappers; iv,[5]-108pp. Deaccessioned library copy, with old perforated stamp (Free Public Library, New Haven) to title page; ink accession number to first page of text; professional cloth-tape reinforcements to hinges (internal). Still a very nicely preserved copy in the original wrappers, with no other institutional or ownership markings.

A local account of early settlement and Indian conflicts along the Virginia-Ohio border, including brief accounts of the Battle of Point Pleasant, the Siege of Fort Henry, the Moravian Massacre, the exploits of David Morgan, Lewis Wetzel, the Poe Brothers, etc. Despite going into numerous editions between its original publication in 1877 and its final one in 1893, this is a surprisingly hard-to-find regional history, with no copies recorded in. This copy, despite modest institutional markings, is in superior condition, the text fresh and the original printed wrappers bright and unworn. HOWES M-171.
