An account of early Japanese-American diplomatic and cultural exchange, written at the outset of increasing Japanese immigration to the U.S. after the 1868 Meiji Restoration. "The threefold object of this volume is to give an account, from official sources, of the Embassy recently accredited to the United States by the Tenno of Japan; to print a collection of essays written by the Japanese students now residing in this country...and to republish a little work on America, compiled under the direction of Jugoi Arinori Mori, the Chargé d'Affaires from Japan" (from preface). This copy was presented by one of the aforementioned students to Irene (Battell) Larned of New Haven, CT. Mrs. Larned was a patron of music at Yale University and the wife of a Yale professor.
