An early, possibly self-published draft of the Puerto Rican-Cuban author's fourth book, a collection of short stories eventually published by Knopf in 1978. "The stories between the pages of this book have to do with the fantasies and illusions, as well as the harsh realities that were so much a part of my life growing up in the barrios of Nueva Yawk 50 years ago. While the drugs of choice and some of the language may have changed today, conditions in the ghetto remain pretty much the same as then: poverty, racism, violence" (p.[1]). This version contains a story left out of the published version, with a number of changes to the text.
