[Item #59325] Porphyrion and Other Poems. Laurence BINYON.

Porphyrion and Other Poems

London: Grant Richards, 1898. First Edition. First impression. Octavo; mauve cloth hardcover with gilt spine titles, front cover decoratively titled in brown; 147,[5]pp. Text unopened. Endpapers moderately foxed; board corners slightly bumped (though somewhat more conspicuous to rear bottom corner); still a fresh, Very Good copy.

Binyon's somewhat uncommon second book. Though best-known as a war poet (his "For the Fallen" is a staple of WW1 anthologies), Binyon's early career produced some well-crafted poems in the late Pre-Raphaelite mode, and though his poetry remained rooted in Victorian form and diction Binyon was an important influence on the early modernists, particularly Ezra Pound who admired Binyon's attention to non-Western art.
