Bright and sound, with slight rubbing to corners and along spine, else Near Fine.

Sidney Lanier (1842-1881) was a musician, Confederate soldier, and professor of literature at Johns Hopkins, known for his unusual treatment of the relationship between poetry and music. "Lanier's verse is unique in American literature as the only poetry whose musical qualities come from direct, practical, artistic experience" (ANB). This is the only volume of his verse published during his lifetime. BAL 11249.
