III: [ii],844pp; 107 plates, numerous in-text wood engravings. Each volume with nineteenth-century gift inscription "John Hanson from his dear Aunt," and the bookplate of noted zoologist James G. Mead. Straight and sound, lightly rubbed, with a few small scuffs to boards, occasional foxing including to plates: Very Good.

Charles Frederick Partington "did a great deal to teach and popularize scientific and technical subjects among the working classes" (Collison, Encyclopaedias: Their History Throughout the Ages 186). His Cyclopaedia was first published in two volumes in 1833-35, part of a "boom in encyclopedia publishing" at the start of the nineteenth century (Collison 174). This copy, issued in three divisions over three years, is bound uniformly as a set.
