First separate appearance of this early article by Jones, which first appeared in the pages of the November-December, 1960 issue of Evergreen Review. Jones, then the editor of Yugen, went with a contingent of other Black authors on a trip to Cuba in July, 1960, by invitation of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee. "While there, he went to Sierra Maestra in Oriente province to attend a mass anniversary rally of the July 26th movement" (p.3). The essay recorded his impressions of his journey to Oriente and the happenings at the meeting, later given the Longview Award as the best essay of the year. A well-preserved copy of a significant debut. DACE A1.
