This copy inscribed on the front endpaper by Helen Hayes, who debuted the role of Mary in the play's 1933 premiere. The inscription, to a Helen Loewen, is dated 1935. Additionally, there is a laid-in signed note on Hayes' personal stationery, agreeing to sign the book. The play premiered on November 27, 1934 at the Alvin Theater in New York and was later the basis for the 1936 John Ford film of the same title, starring Katharine Hepburn in the role of Mary.
