Trade Circular. A New And Important Invention [Becker's Eliptograph]. Indispensable to Wood Engravers, Mechanical Draughtsmen, Designers, Die Sinkers, Etc. Etc. Etc. Price $15.

[Boston: John Becker, ca. 1880s]. Circular, 19cm x 14cm; printed both sides in sepia ink on coated stock. Fine. Undated, likely ca. 1880s. Engraved illustration on recto, with a description of operation on verso.

The John Becker Manufacturing Co., of Newton, MA, was founded in 1889 and merged with the Brainard Milling Machine Co. in 1899. Possibly the same John Becker patented a "World Type Writer" in 1886. We do not find a patent record for the current eliptograph, but style and typography date it with high probability to the same decade.
