In light tan cloth binding for the Leisure Hour Series, stamped in black on boards and spine; white endpapers printed in red with series ads; [1-7] 8-318pp; list of titles opposite title page, and publisher's ads on endpapers. Pencil inscription to flyleaf of Ella Francis Lithgow. A straight copy, with stamping on lower board mostly worn away, some minor soiling to cloth at spine, head and tail rubbed; somewhat loosened, front hinge largely cracked, rear hinge with 1-inch crack, one or two minor pencil marks in text: Good. Final leaf of gathering 3 (pp.71-72) neatly replaced, potentially a cancel. The most widely read of Turgenev's works during the 19th century, now better known as Home of the Gentry.
