American Slavery. Address of the Committee of the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society to the Moderator, Office Beareres, and Members of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland

N.p., n.d. (London: 1846): British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society. Octavo (21cm). Printed, sewn self-wrappers; 12pp. Occasional creasing to page corners; partial split to first and final leaves at bound edge, otherwise minimal evidence of use or age; Very Good.

A direct attack on the Commissioners of the Free Church of Scotland, following their fundraising mission to the United States, for their implicit endorsement of "this execrable system" of slavery: "...The Commissioners of the Free Church went to the United States on what was regarded by many as a noble errand...had they confined their mission to the free states they would have been welcomed home again with joy. But they did not do this. They travelled into the slave states; they fellow-shipped with slave-holders; they received their hospitalities, and took their gold to cast it into your treasury. By this act they struck a blow at the very heart of abolition...and, not content with this, they have libelled the character of the faithful hand of Abolitionists in the United States..."
