Independence Day 1971 Will be Celebrated in Albuquerque, N.M. [...]

Venice, CA: Peace & Freedom Party, [1971]. Two-sided flyer, mimeographed in colors on newsprint; 11" x 8-1/2". Small chip in margin, lower left corner; stock slightly aged; Very Good.

Flyer announcing "Independence Day," a nationwide gathering of independent U.S. political parties including Peace & Freedom, the New Party, the Independent New Mexican Party, and others. Recto announces the event and four-day schedule; verso is a press release detailing the meeting's objectives and statement of purpose: "We believe that the present major political parties of the United States do not represent nor reflect the social, political, and economic hopes of a large segment of the population of this country, and we therefore unite into a new and different social and political force." According to contemporary newspaper accounts the convention indeed came off, drawing about 250 delegates including featured speaker Gore Vidal.
