Mild to moderate external rubbing and wear, with brief perforations to cloth at joints; front endpaper lacking; conspicuous but intermittent foxing; a complete, Good, sound copy.

Called by Amerine the 3rd Edition, but more likely the Fourth American (see Amerine & Borg p.139); this was apparently the first edition to include the Appendix. Expanded from the London editions of 1835-41. "Hoare's treatise on the cultivation of the grape vine...became the standard reference work..." (Gabler). The Appendix, addressing American grape culture, is comprised of a series of extracts from contemporaryAmerican horticultural journals. GABLER 24040 (the first edition); AMERINE & BORG 1774.
